Biograpy - Sean Conlon

Recording artist/producer Sean Conlon is a soul on a mission. His life is dedicated to awakening, healing, and liberating the creative spirit through music. A passionate vocalist and wildly inventive electric bass guitarist, he effortlessly merges the two into a tidal wave of positive vibration. A self taught natural, his music is an untamable force of nature. Funk, soul, rock, jazz, electronic, dub, and world music erupt like a lava flow straight from the heart. He channels these forces into inspiring live performances and unusually refined recordings. He is a driven visionary, equal parts improviser and composer, poet and producer, inventive songwriter and explosive instrumentalist. Having been touched by a divine love of music, he has dedicated his life to making art that embodies this Love and inspires people to live musically.

Over the years Sean has experienced and integrated a staggering amount of musical living into his art. Growing up in inner city Milwaukee, WI, he was initiated into the soulful and vibrant musical reality of urban America. At age 15 he began to play guitar, jamming with friends on Milwaukee’s eclectic East side. At age 17 he switched to bass guitar, feeling an intuitive resonance with its unexplored possibilities, dynamic attack, and thunderous tone.

After high school Sean began writing and recording, playing all the instruments in his home 4-track studio. Gigs took him all over as he played in everything from black funk bands (Jewel and the Future), to hippy jam bands(Juniper Tree), to an experimental jazz dub collective (Planet Sound). Living music off stage and on, he taught bass lessons, booked bands, wrote music reviews, formed a musican’s referral network, and studied recording engineering, non-western music, and poetry at Western Michigan University. He soaked up everything the region had to offer, and still wanted more. In a conscious quest to transcend the mid west’s musical limitations, Sean moved to the expansive musical landscape of Seattle in 1995.

It was in the free spirited and abundantly talented atmosphere of Seattle that Sean forged his musical vision and underwent a spiritual transformation. He channeled a natural gift for poetry into thought provoking lyrics, developed a radical approach to the electric bass guitar, and honed it all playing the streets, clubs, and festivals of the West Coast. He developed a production studio and constantly composed. He helped form original bands like Transmutations, Eclectric Company, and BioFlavanoids, merging new streams of musical consciousness in the process. Continual gigging led to performances at Burning Man, Milwaukee’s Summer Fest, Seattle’s Folklife festival, and bass clinics at the NAMM show in Annaheim, CA. Continually leaping into new musical experiences, he did music for a spoken word cable show, hosted legendary jam parties, ran an improv night, and worked at the Experience Music Project, an interactive music museum where he served on 3 committees and designed a hands on dub remix installation.

Sean’s Quest to put the Soul back in music exploded in 2002. Solo Music took him on a two month tour of the West Coast and Mexico. He took music into the community centers of Seattle where he started a music education program. He developed a curriculum for holistic music studies at Evergreen State College and began work on a book about the transformative power of music, interviewing musicians from around the world. Then at the end of 2002 he completed “Live Love”, a long awaited self produced solo album. As unique, adventurous, and dynamic as the artist that created it, “Live Love” is an artistic statement of uncommon depth. Its lush production, unique style, and timeless message establish Sean as both an artist and producer to watch. With this artist always arriving from an infinite journey, there should be a lot to see.
